Heidegger and Nazism

I've just read in The New York Times Review of Books that Emmanuel Faye's book Heidegger, l'introduction du nazisme dans la philosophie : Autour des séminaires inédits de 1933-1935 (Broché) is about to be publish in the USA (Heidegger: The Introduction of Nazism into Philosophy), in which he claims that the German philosopher was a fervent Nazi and starts a debate. This one consists in arguing that since he, Martin, was a Nazi, his Philosophy is filled with Nazi ideas, which could bring back some new totalitarian, racist and fascist in the XXI century. Faye promotes the idea of taking Heidegger out of the History of Philosophy books and put him into the History of Nazism ones. What an absurd debate. Of course Heidegger is and should be classified as a Philosopher despite the conection he had with the Nazis. I think whomever wants to take Heidegger's Philosophy out the books of Philosophy hasn't read and understood Heidegger. To begin with, his ideas weren't Nazis (I don't see any Nazi one in Being and Time: Sein and Zeit, nor in the rest of the books I've read of him. On the other hand, he allied the Nazi for academic reasons, trying to wealthen the Friburg University, but never aproved ideas like The Final Solution. Ridiculous. His Philosophy is based upon ontology and metaphysics. How can that be Nazi. Finally, following that line of thought we should also take out of the Philosophy Nietzsche, whose Also Spracht Zarathustra was known to be in Nazis soldiers hands during WWII.

Heidegger, as most Germans, thought the Nazi régime was a healthy and prosperous one and that Hitler was a good leader. Of course he didn't knew about The Final Solution. In fact, much of what is said that Heidegger said in his speech of the Friburg University when he was named Dean is false. It is also known that Heidegger sometimes went too far in his classes and feared some Nazi reprisal. And even more: in his classes he had jew students and the Nazis didn't like the closeness he kept with them.

I beleive the version and vision Faye is trying to give of Heidegger misleads. Think the loop he does to prove that Being and Time is a clear manifestation and approval of Nazi ideas is just too far. The French philosopher seems to be an "Inglorious Bastard" of German Philosophy.
